Calculation conventions and standards
Units
Calculators support pounds (lb) and kilograms (kg). The formulas themselves are unit-independent as long as the same unit is used consistently for the input and output.
1RM terminology
1RM means one-repetition maximum. On this site, an estimated 1RM is clearly distinguished from a directly tested maximum.
Rounding
Displayed results are rounded for readability. The underlying JavaScript calculations use the full floating-point value before formatting the displayed result.
Plate loading
Plate calculations are based on the denominations shown in the tool. Actual gym inventories can differ, so a loadable target may vary between facilities.
Exercise specificity
Barbell, dumbbell, incline, decline, paused, close-grip, wide-grip and Smith-machine calculations are treated as separate exercise inputs. The site does not silently convert one exercise into another.
